LaVon Grau
LaVon Grau, 79, of Wells, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.

LaVon G. Grau was born June 5, 1929, the daughter of Herbert and Gustie (Mrotz) Franke in Madelia. She was confirmed on April 2, 1944, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wells. On June 27, 1947, LaVon was united in marriage to Bernard A. Grau in Wells. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, ladies' aid and circle. She was a member of the MI Arabian Horse Club, having been a member of the board. She ran the concession stand during shows. She was deeply involved in showing horses, including halter and trail class. LaVon was a mentor to many in regards to her skills and showmanship with horses. LaVon was a devoted wife and homemaker. She worked as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed cooking and baking, her specialty was angel food cake. LaVon and Bernard enjoyed square dancing. She liked playing cards with friends.

She is survived by Linda and her husband William Clark of Yakima, Wash., who she and her husband raised and considered to be their daughter; Linda's son: Scott and his wife Laura Clark of Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren: Taylor and Kaitlyn Clark of Spokane, Wash.; cousins and their families: Bonnie (Bruce) Kermes of Albert Lea, Lois (Ward) Bergene of Austin and Bobby Huemoeller.

She was preceded in death by her parents,; her husband Bernard in 1999; and one cousin, LaTonya Wright.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to ELCA World Hunger.
