Carol Ann Vallafskey
1938 - 2012

Age 73, entered into eternal life on Monday, March 19, 2012. Carol was born to Edwin and Eva Fehrman on April 11, 1938, in Somo Township near Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

Carol was united in marriage to Eugene Vern Vallafskey on September 23, 1954, at First Methodist Church in Appleton. Gene and Carol spent the first years of their married life in Colorado, Germany and Kansas while Gene was serving in the United States Army. In 1962, they returned to Wisconsin and Carol devoted her life to raising her children and creating a loving home where everyone felt welcome. Family and friends fondly remember countless days of cards, board games, music, laughter and wonderful meals together.

Carol was a very hard worker and instilled that value in her children. She had several jobs including Hortonville Toy Factory and Shiocton Kraut Factory, but her lifelong passion was her family. Ask any one of their children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren who they could always count on seeing in the bleachers, stands, seats…cheering them on in whatever sporting event or fine arts activity they might be participating in. Grandma and Grandpa were always there.

Carol's interests included reading, gardening, bird watching, visiting national parks, attending church and Lady's Aid, volunteering as a 4-H leader, helping with Girl Scouts … and the list went on. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed picking berries, making maple syrup and traveling throughout the country with her family on vacations that created memories that her family will treasure forever.

Throughout her two-year battle with cancer, Carol relied on her strong faith in God and her family's love to get her through each day. Her greatest desire was that her entire family would share her strong belief in God and accept His promise of salvation. While the void of her loss will never be filled, there is peace in knowing that her suffering is over and that we will meet her again one day in eternity.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eugene Vallafskey and her eight children: Mark (Karen); Dian (Larry) Johnson; Cheryl (Joel) Banda; Lisa Beyer (Steve Van Dyn Hoven); Michael (Sue); Juleen Vallafskey (Ken Affeldt); Matthew (Mary); and Teresa Vallafskey.

Carol was blessed with 25 grandchildren: Anthony (Tonya), Eric (Shaya) and Alaina Vallafskey and Cory Stammer; Chad (Krysta) and Bryan (Courtney) Johnson; Joel III, Lindsey, Jaclyn and Jordan (Lou) Banda; Amanda and Luke Beyer; Mikala and Karlye Vallafskey and Scott and Steven Rethwill; Ken Jr., Jamie, Tony and Tim Affeldt; Zachery, Hailey and Braden Vallafskey; Benjamin and Adaya Vallafskey.

Her life was further celebrated with 13 great-grandchildren: Hannah and Sawyer Vallafskey, Madeline and Colin Ottestad; Blake, Eve and Hope Johnson; Brynn Johnson; Jaiden, Julian and Trinity Banda; Jordan Banda Jr.; and Lily Banda.

Carol is further survived by her siblings: Edwin (Juanita); Gloria (Bill) Hamlin; Ruth (Jim) Pleshek; Phillip and Larry. Brothers and sisters in-law: Toby (Kathy); Judy (Jim) Huse as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Eva Fehrman; her father and mother in-law, Vern and Verona Vallafskey; sisters in-law, Gloria and Bonnie Fehrman; her precious Aunt Hattie Puffe and other extended family members.

Carol's generosity extended beyond her immediate family, including many of her children's friends. There was always an open door, room at the table and a place to sleep. She always gave more than she ever took. Her family and those she touched will be forever grateful for her selfless example. She taught us so much.

Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to her specialists at Appleton Medical Center: Dr. Avi Bar-Lev, Dr. Michael Ray, and Jennifer Hart, RN/NP and the staff and volunteers at Martha Seikman Cancer Center as well as Dr. Anthony Eclavea of Radiology Associates of Appleton. Also, special thanks to the Shiocton volunteer first responders, Sgt. Shawn Oligny, Deputy Coroner Jon Hagen and Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home.

The Christian Funeral for Carol will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, 11 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church (N5610 Broad St), Shiocton with Rev. Paul Hinz officiating. Internment will follow at Shiocton Bovina Cemetery. A visitation for Carol will be held at Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home. Shiocton, Friday from 4 until 7 p.m and also at the church Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
