Anthony Frank DiCarlo

Our beloved and devoted father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle, Anthony Frank DiCarlo, entered heaven to be with his Lord on April 15, 2017. Born on June 1, 1921 in Etiwanda, California, Anthony was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Eileen Marie DiCarlo. He is survived by his son, Don and wife Karen, daughter, Dianne Ritchie and husband, Curt, and daughter Natalie Dye. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, Marc DiCarlo, Michelle Rossi, Michael Rossi, Amy Halloway-DiCarlo, James Rossi, Lisa DiCarlo-Duran, Melissa Portal-Luchini, Nicole Kennedy, Ryan Dye, and Jessica Ritchie, 18 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Anthony was a graduate of Etiwanda School and Chaffey High School. He worked on his family's vineyard and for Polverini's Water Company in Los Angeles prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army on November 3, 1942. He served his country for four years during World War 2 as a heavy truck and tractor driver and a machine gun sharpshooter in Central Europe (Germany and France). He received five commendations and medals for good conduct and bravery. He returned home to his wife and family in February 1946.
Anthony was an Entrepreneur. His first business, Pip-di- Pip Market on Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino, was in partnership with his brother-in-law, Anthony Pipitone and his brother, Frank Pipitone. His second business was Anthony's Drive In Liquor on 5th and Mt. Vernon in San Bernardino with his brother-in-law, Anthony Pipitone. He purchased Ace Lighting Fixture Company in 1965 and in 1969 built Anthony's Lighting in San Bernardino. He retired in 1979 to Rancho Santa Fe where he went into the custom home construction business. He and Eileen lived in Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, and Vista in homes he built for over 15 years. Following his passion for baseball he joined his son, Don from 1994 to 1998 as an owner in the Suns Professional Baseball franchises in Palm Springs and Ventura County. He retired in 1999. His greatest joy in life was his family, in whose hearts he will forever stay. His tremendous love and devotion to his family paid tribute to the goodness and purity of spirit that he demonstrated throughout his entire life.
A celebration of Anthony's life will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery located at 570 East Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, California, 92404. A reception and dinner will follow the service in Hinze Hall. Burial will follow on Wednesday, April 26 at 11:01 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, March Air Reserve Base, California, 92518.
