Pneumonia Takes
W. O. Mortimer, 58,
Lumber Dealer

W. O. Mortimer, 58, well known in
Port Huron as a real estate opera-
tor and a lumber dealer, and at one
time the only registered pharmac-
ist in the extreme Thumb district,
died at his home, 1303 St. Clair
street, shortly after 6 p. m. Sunday
of pneumonia.
Mr. Mortimer was born in 1868 at
St. Thomas, Ont., moving with his
parents to Roseburg, Mich., in 1876,
where he settled on a farm. He re-
ceived a rural school education and
taught in Sanilac and Lapeer coun-
ties. In 1887 he was given a regis-
tered pharmacist's certificate at
Sandusky and operated a drug store
in Kinde.
He married Miss Victoria Green-
wood in Roseburg in 1891, and later
started a lumber yard in Kinde, at
the same time operating his drug
store. He came to Port Huron in
1914 and operated a lumber yard. He
had resided in Port Huron since.
Later he engaged in the real estate
business and was also a builder in
Port Huron and Detroit. Mr. Mor-
timer was known as a keen business
man. His only fraternal connection
was with the Port Austin lodge F
& A.M. Besides his widow, Mrs. Vic-
toria Mortimer, he is survived by
two sons, Floyd, 2108 Seventh street,
and Cecil, 1303 St. Clair street, a
daughter, Eleanora, 1303 St. Clair
street; one grandchild; his mother,
Mrs. George Mortimer, Croswell, one
brother, Frank, Detroit, and two
sisters, Mrs. Frank Hoffman, Chi-
cago, and Mrs. Lavina Stewart, De-
troit. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 4 p. m., from the fam-
ily residence, 1303 St. Clair street,
Rev. Russel Bready, pastor of the
First Methodist Episcopal church,
officiating. Burial will be in Lake-
side cemetery with services in
charge of the Masonic lodge.
