SALEM - Mildred Fay DiIaconi was born January
7, 1916 in Sextonville Wisconsin to Lon E. and Nellie
Medley. During the Depression she was sent to live
with her Uncle in Spooner, Wisconsin, where she
graduating from high school as the class Valedic-
torian. She then went on to become a laboratory
technician and it was while working at St Luke's
Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that she met a
senior medical student, Daniel E. DiIaconi.
The couple were married October 24, 1942 in
the same church that Daniel's father and mother
had been married in years before. Shortly after
the wedding Daniel became active military and following boot camp he was
stationed overseas for the duration of the war. During the time Dan was
overseas Mildred worked as a laboratory technician in Pittsburgh, Penn-
sylvania living her father-in-law.
When Dan returned from the war the coupled moved to Vancouver,
Washington. In December 1949 their first daughter, Barbara, was born.
The family then moved a couple of times but eventually ended up in Salem,
Oregon in 1953. It was here that the next two girls, Deanna and Marianne
were born and raised.
Mildred was a stay at home wife and mother who occupied her time work-
ing with Camp Fire Girls and 4H for her daughters. She was also actively
involved in the Medical Auxiliary and Sojourners, often acting as secretary
for these groups.
She loved playing bridge, bowling and sewing. She made many of the
dresses her three daughters wore to grade school. Later in life having saved
the left over material from these dresses and other sewing projects she
took up the art of quilting and her meticulous attention to detail and her
perfect little stitches made her quilts true works of art. She also enjoyed
china painting and again her meticulous nature came out creating gorgeous
floral plates. Her painting skill was also demonstrated during the Christmas
cookie season. Her cookies were so lovely it was hard to eat them but eaten
and enjoyed they were by everyone. For the past 8 years she turned from
making cookies to creating Christmas aprons for Deanna and her friends
for their cookie baking/decorating parties.
After the death of her husband, Dan. to whom she had been married 68
plus years she spent more time playing bridge, gardening, traveling to visit
with her daughters and quilting. Then on June 15, 2018, on the seventh
anniversary, almost at the same hour, of her husband's death she left us
with her Barbara and Deanna by her side. She is survived by her daughters,
Barbara DiIaconi, Deanna Beisser, Marianne Beaton, her grandchildren,
Laura Beisser, Benoit Beisser, Daniel Beaton and Jennifer Beaton.
Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
